    Centipedes

William S Bouroghs - may be one of the worlds greatest cynics. A few weeks ago I went to an exhibition and between the art works the curator had scattered some of the best and most endearing quotes. I’d though to do a whole month of drawings around these but I ran out of steam what with other Inktober persuits. I thought I’d post a the few I did manage to complete.

Centipedes I have to agree are deeply suspicious creatures.

    Humans like goldfish

The human spirit  is a lot like a gold fish. One find oneself expanding and contracting to fit the available space. Nourish a soul with your actions, give it air and light and space to express itself without fear of rejection and it grows big and full. In the warm light of the sun.

However if you constantly criticized it, regect it nag at it. It shrivels up. Becoming small and easily wooned in a desperate attempt at self preservation.

Human are sensitive beings, be kind, encouraged others. You really have no idea how your encouragement or criticism may wooned or feed the people you encounter.

    Fok Nie (maar dankie)

Another Afrikaans classic, Fok Nie ( maar dankie ).

There is something wonderful about the infinite politeness of Afrikaans people together with their unbelievable frankness. They things things like sorry wrong number, and I’m sorry for being late, even though they usual are, ( late ) [but not decease].

So this fraze really encapsulates it all.  Fuck no, but thanks for offering.

The opposite of Theo being of course Fok Ja, ( fuck yes ) and they say these thing with such heart and conviction, swearing in Afrikaans somehow seems to be less bad, more forgivable than in English. Since I’m official at least 3.6 / quarter Afrikaans I am as well own it.

    Headache Head

I don’t know if you are someone who suffers from megrains and headache, but. I can commiserate. There are only so many times one can go to work with headache Head. Before ones wants to lie down and admit defeat.

    Brigs.

    Ja - Nie ( yes -no )

In South Africa we have a saying, JA NIE.

In translation, it means yes - no.

Given today’s news, America pulls out of UN human rights commission and also the current trade war standoff possibly having massive global financial consequences. Really the Cuban missile crisis of the financial world.

Ja - Nie pretty much sums it up.

    Private confessions

I reasilsed today, I never got to say good bye.

I was watching this movie, you know the one where the family huddles around the bed of a Ill loved one. Saying all the things they wanted to say. And suddenly I realized, I never got to say goodbye. My dad taken Ill on Friday’s and by the following Friday he was gone.

They said not to worry, not to come. It’s so far to travel. The short thought is, get to say goodbye. Say goodbye, when those you love are I’ll go and see them.

My father always said, have not regrets, get up every morning and say the things you want to say, do what you love, get up every morning and enjoy what the day has to offer. Live the life you dreamed of.

He had a lot of flaws as do we all,  but there was that one thing he got right.

    Brain swamp

A condition I like to call brainswamp. When no matter what you do, your brain just pulls a nope. Usually I find this occurs after long stretches of writing. I like to think of this as a dyslexic brain fenomenon. Although it may well not be specific to dyslexia Perse. Perhaps it’s more of a post graduate study phenomena.

It mainly involves the ability to recall who said what, and where. Kind of like a more annoying version of the inability to spell stuff. Usually a rest helps. Of course one can’t always take rests with deadlines and so on.

Ofcouse systems with notes can help. However, sometimes one can’t even remember the author or the paper title...so that really only goes so far.

Hopefully this is a temporary condition, exacerbated by extended exposure to family life over the Christmas holidays..

    Happy 2018 folks!
